Bromelight........

Bromelight........, inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

Bromelight........

a flash of color in this dark space
red always seems to brighten the place
towering tall and regal looks for sure
this flower is nothing you'd call demure

Thank you Iris for another beautiful poem!!!! Please visit her stream!!

Greed :)

Greed :), inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

When I checked this shot on my LCD I couldn't help but smile. Little greedy bee couldn't decide which flower to claim for his own........ :)

this busy bee is like many people I know
when you have too much it will show
making good choices is part of the plan
compensating over indulgence by man

Poem by indomitable Iris (eyewrisz). Please check out her wonderful stream!

A quiet afternoon in Kyoto

A quiet afternoon in Kyoto, inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

Every time I watch this shot I took in Kyoto back in 2009, I like to think of myself as one of those two ducks sitting on top of the rock completely oblivious of all the stupid restraints of our so-called modern society, being able to truly enjoy the calm of the scenery. Better on Black

Through Iris (eyewrisz) better words>
the serenity is obvious in this pastoral place
before nature turned an ugly face
people need memories of these calmer days
without them you suffer from some sort of malaise

Have a serene afternoon!

1000 Cranes for Japan

1000 Cranes for Japan by Hawkea, inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

"The crane is a mystical, holy creature in Japan - it represents luck, good fortune, and long-life. The act of folding cranes, specifically, 1000 cranes, is said to make the folder's wish come true.
Strings of one thousand paper cranes are often sent to places where tragedy has struck as a symbol of hope & healing. Sometimes groups will fold 1000 cranes for an ailing friend in hopes of speeding her recovery.
I think it would be a beautiful show of support and love for Japan if flickr was flooded with paper cranes. Is it too much to hope for a virtual chain of 1000 cranes? If you make one, send me a flickr mail. I will start a group if there is enough interest. Feel free to spread the word.
"

These are the words of Damiec who started the group 1000 Cranes for Japan. I heard about it from Paisley Patches and since I though it was a wonderful way to show our support and love for the Japanese people, I had to join the group! I invite you to do the same. Here is a tutorial about how to make the origami cranes.
Texture/Background is from Mr_Xvious (William Harris) on DeviantArt.
The crane was made by my wife and it is actually an earring measuring only a couple of centimetres wide.
Have a great day!

Luna blue

Luna blue, inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

dear friends, I need your attention for 2 minutes. Most of you know already Luna, my youngest daughter who has Down Syndrome. She truly is my life and from the moment she was born (ok maybe a few days after the initial shock) our life has changed drastically and only for the better.

What I am asking you is to have a look at this blog about Zara another little girl with DS who should be at home with her adoring parents and instead has spent the first 2 years of her life in an orphanage, just because of the "condition" she was born with....And shes not the only one either.....
Just knowing that you my friends have read that post will help me knowing that I am doing something to spread this very important message that most people in western societies are not aware of.

Thank you in advance.

Pink buttercup

Pink buttercup, inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

Buttercup :)

looks like a porcelain sculpted rose
with no fragrance wafting through one's nose
but i know it's mother nature's work that makes it so fine
close to perfection and rather divine

Guess who wrote this poem? :) If you are curious and want to know, head here and you'll discover it!

Spring is here alright.......

Spring is here alright......., inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

......but I dont really care.....crying doesn't help, praying doesn't help, mourning doesn't either...and so what?

And Iris (eyewrisz) has once again managed to find the words that wouldn't come easily out of me.

look at the flowers for answers so true
they fight to survive and want to live too
you will get through this listen to me
and once again find beauty in all that you see

the tragedy has happened we feel so helpless for them all
where do turn who can we call
the darkness prevails mostly at night
just keep your mind focused and do what you feel is right

Mourning

Mourning, inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

Sorry guys if I cant shake it out of my mind......I always loved Japan and its people and this tragedy is weighing like a ton on my chest......I wish I could do something concrete, something real about it......
And excuse me if this is a post and run.....

Today I can only cry....

My Sweet Heart

My Sweet Heart, inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

you didn't make a peep
while your "sweet heart" did sleep
dreams are hers to keep
may she never have to weep

Yesterday night Luna fell asleep hugging her favourite cushion. And I couldn't resist taking a few shots. We were in almost complete darkness hence I had to pump up the ISO to 1600 and open the diaphragm to 1.8. The canon 50mm 1.8 doesn't really shine at 1.8, but I don't really care in this case. She's just too cute, isn't she? And of course I had to play with selective colours given that red heart and her rosy cheeks :)

The poem above is as usual courtesy of my flickr friend Iris (eyewrisz).
Thank you, that is lovely!!

Have a great evening my friends and thanks for all the lovely comments you've been leaving in my stream.

Teddy Bear's Picnic

Teddy Bear's Picnic, inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

ok maybe they are not having a picnic (they were actually fishing, you can spot the fishing rod) but I love THAT song too much!!! You should listen to it while watching this.
I took this shot somewhere along the Philosopher's Path in Kyoto, one of my favourite places ever ....

Iris (eyewrisz) was inspired by this shot to write this:
if you go out in the woods today
you will see Fabio hard at play
fishing and relaxing and never wary
he'll need a larger bench for il suo sedere

il suo sedere is italian for his bum.
Thank you Iris, Luna enjoyed it when I read it to her!!

Have a great day everyone!!

A ray of hope

A ray of hope, inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

I am posting this shot after re-editing it following some suggestions by my friend and artist Iris (eyewrisz) that also wrote this lovely poem for it.

a single flower standing out in the night
must be special and kissed with moonlight
it has a glow cascading around
think it's from heaven and not from the ground

Today being the international women's day I also offer this humble homage to all women here. With this respect, my own interpretation of this shot is that unfortunately not all women (flowers in the background) can shine and live their lives to their fullest like the main subject of the shot. So maybe today we should just think about all the women who are still victims of any kind of discrimination. I hope this makes some kind of sense to you all given my poor english!

Finnish log house

Finnish log house, inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

Details of an old finnish log house.
I love log houses and one of my ever lasting dreams is to be able, one day, to buy one in Finland.

Iris (eyewrisz) interpretation is, as always, too kind! Thank you my friend!!

this may just be a picture of logs
might be ignored and not written about in blogs
it's all about surface and texture you see
that makes an artistic expression for me

whether a part of something or possibly all
how it's interpreted is the call
what is photographed should be definitely appealing
and it leaves you with an arty feeling

Sunset silhouette

Sunset silhouette, inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

this sunset appears to have caught on fire
when so unique they are easy to admire
the birds seem unfettered by it all
flying in a flock is nature's call

Iris (eyewrisz) tirelessly keeps on creating these beautiful poems for my captures!! I wonder what did I do to deserve this! Thank you once again!

Vain Seagull

Vain Seagull, inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

:)

an egotistical vain little seagull
studies himself and then takes a stroll
making sure he lookes just right
when he meets his lady in the moonlight

Thank you Iris (eyewrisz) for yet another gem!!

Sorry for the low quality but it is a nearly 100% crop of a shot taken with a 2x extender........me needs a 600mm!! Anyone care to throw one in this direction?

When life seems like an uphill struggle......

.....just remember that the view from the top will be breathtaking!!!!!
Maybe.......:)

Iris (eyewrisz) kindly wrote this poem. And I cannot thank her enough!!

a long upward climb what purpose we may ask
is this the lady bird's pleasure or task
upon reaching her goal and what then
she'll probably fly off and start all over again

Frozen in time.....

Frozen in time....., inserito originariamente da Hawkea.

.....and dreaming someone will come and scratch that awful itch in my back........

Iris (eyewrisz) instead has her own take on this capture, surely better than mine:

I wouldn't mind being frozen in time
if when it happened it was at my prime
all parts intact with perky boobs showing

better than surgery i'd be frozen but glowing

Have a great day (or night) everyone!!
